Inspiration Overload in 3, 2, 1 ...

So…as you already know (if you have read my Q&A page on my website that is) the real inspiration for my story came as a result of my constant daydreams about the kind of superpowers I would like to possess. However, what about my writing style? My character development? (if any) Well they have interesting answers.

As a lover and writer of Young Adult (YA) fiction, I have consumed (not literally) many books aimed at this audience over the years, across a range of genres and from both indie and published authors. From fantasy to horror, I have always been a book worm, although YA has held a strong place in my heart, especially as I have only recently exited that era of my life (my brain refuses to believe this terrifying fact!). Therefore, it is only right that I dedicate this post to the many authors who have inspired me over the years. Some of these are as follows:

J.K. Rowling (Not including her on this list would have been a sin)

Michelle Paver (Her world building, imagery and storytelling skills are beyond incredible. I have lost myself in her 'Chronicals of Ancient Darknaess' Series too many times to count!)

Richelle Mead (For wit, sarcasm and badass heroines alone, she gets my vote every time)

J. R. R. Tolkien (Master of fantasy. Need I say more?)

Charlotte Bronte (Mystery. Romance. Drama. A timeless legend)

John Green (Any nerdy author who makes me laugh and cry in the same sentence is worthy of being on this list!)

Susan Collins (Lots of action with an epic romance. Team Katniss through and through!)

Jane Austen (A mixture of wit and romance. One awesome recipe for success.)

Bella Forrest (Sexy vampires and dark backstories. I love it!)

And there you have it. A few of the endless authors who have inspired me over my writing career to date.

What are your inspirational authors? Please leave a comment on my blog and let me know!
